Cupping Therapy – stimulate blood flow, boost the immune system and alleviate pain

Chinese cupping therapyChinese cupping therapy has been preformed since ancient times.

Cupping can be used to treat a wide variety of complaints including muscular pain, cold and flu, arthritis, lung conditions, and gastrointestinal disorders. Cupping has the ability to activate the lymphatic system, boost the immune system, eliminate toxins and poisons, expel pathological cold, wind and dampness; and is recommended for general health. Cupping is also a great therapy to relax the body and relieve tension.

During a cupping treatment, a cup (traditionally bamboo or the more modern glass or valve cup) is placed on the surface of the skin. The cup is stuck to the skin by means of suction. In the case of using glass or bamboo, a small flame is introduced into the cup which burns up the oxygen and produces negative pressure within the cup. This pulls the skin and subcutaneous tissue up inside the cup, and, as a result, the chi and blood is activated and drawn to the area, activating healing in that area.

Cupping can mark the skin. The colour or the marks left by the cups is an indicator to the practitioner of just what it happening inside the body, ie. blood stagnation in the muscle, excess heat in the body, chi deficiency etc. These marks are a very good sign of the body healing the condition in which is being treated. Marks usually clear up within 3-7 days. There are no negative side effects and most people find that cupping is a huge benefit to their treatment plan.

Cupping therapy is safe and effective for all ages from infants to elderly.
