Remedial Massage – relieve muscular tension and increase range of movement
Remedial massage is a treatment specifically designed to address soft tissue (muscular) issues in the body.
In massage, superficial and deeper layers of muscles and connective tissue are manipulated to enhance function, aid in the healing process, and to promote relaxation and well-being. Various techniques can be used to achieve this, like trigger point therapy, myofascial release, deep tissue massage and PNF stretching.
Deep tissue massage uses deep tissue compression to unstick the fibres of the muscles and release both toxins and deeply held tension points. It removes blockages, damaged cells, as well as some scar tissue and adhesions left after injury. By increasing blood and lymph circulation, it encourages the healing process of the body and speeds up recovery time.
There are some instances in which massage is not appropriate.
Whilst massage can be used to treat strains and sprains and other injuries, it is important to note that massage should not be performed on inflammatory conditions. Acute injuries where areas are hot, red or swollen are all contraindications to massage.
